CBS was wondering which of five new shows to put its promotional muscle behind. Traditional dial-test research didn’t indicate a real preference among the viewers tested, but the facial coding results proved to correlate well with what happened on the air: three flops, a minor success, and Big Bang Theory the show to bet on! Speaking of TV shows, when facial coding was used to predict which Sharks would make an offer after an entrepreneur’s pitch, the accuracy rate over 30 pitches was 83.8%. Not perfect, but a well-above chance track record as to which Sharks would or wouldn’t bite.
